Identifier An unambiguous reference to the resource within a given context VR/GM Title A name given to the resource Gorsky Menu Collection Description An account of the resource The Gorsky Menu Collection consists of 82 original menus from various restaurants in the San Fernando Valley, as well as some duplicate menus.<br /><br /> The menus are an important part of San Fernando Valley history, documenting the prices and sometimes the locations of restaurants that have long since disappeared. They take us back to a time when filet mignon cost $1.25, with mashed potatoes, veggies, and a drink for another 25 cents. They also provide an emotional reaction. People seeing them will remember going out to eat with their families, sitting at the same tables every time, celebrating graduations or bar mitzvahs, or just hanging out after school. They’ll remember which restaurants their parents always went to, or picking out their favorite thing to eat as a kid.<br /><br /><div class="element"> <div class="element-text">Alison Turtledove initially processed and researched the collection in 2015. The owner was John Aletano, Sr. Aletano’s moved to Laurel Canyon Blvd. location from 4334 Matillija, Sherman Oaks, in 1964. Joe Aletano had retired in 1962 and moved to the Bay Area, but he came back and started up again. His whole family worked there. It remained open at least as late as 1977.
