SUMMARY:The Orange and the Dream of California
DESCRIPTION:If you love history\, then you won’t want to miss this book signing by author David Boulé “The Orange and the Dream of California” this event at Valley Relics Museum takes a lively\, literary\, and extraordinarily visual look at the symbiotic and highly symbolic relationship between the Golden State and its “golden apple.” \nUntold thousands of adventurers and health-seekers came West in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century\, lured by postcards of orange blossoms juxtaposed to snow-capped mountains. \nOrange juice became the way to start every day after Sunkist spread the word that drinking a California orange was not only as sweet and delicious as eating one\, but held the promise to a healthy life. \nThe orange became a symbol of everything California promised\, and California became the center of the Orange Empire. \nAbout the author David Boulé\nA third-generation Californian who has roots in both the southern and northern parts of the state\, David Boulé has a lifelong fascination with the history\, culture\, achievements\, and uniqueness of his home state. For decades he has scoured the country in pursuit of items and information relating to the California citrus industry. A career in marketing communication has given him particular interest and insight into how the orange helped enhance the image of California. \nHis collection includes historic photographs\, hundreds of postcards\, rare advertising and marketing materials\, books\, newspapers and press clippings\, records\, posters\, journals\, and personal papers\, along with many California orange-themed souvenirs and promotional items. Materials from his citriculture collection have been featured in several museum and library exhibits\, and he has frequently lectured on the topic.

SUMMARY:Old Friends - Dinner and a Show
DESCRIPTION:Valley Relics welcomes you to “OLD FRIENDS” – A ONE ACT play written and directed by Bob Arnold. The play was inspired from a book written by Bob’s friend\, Richard Hulse\, “Forty Crazy Years of Friendship”. \nCome join us Saturday\, October 25th at 8:00 PM for this outstandingly written and emotionally charged performance at the Valley Relics Museum. \nSeats are limited\, so get your tickets today. Admission is a $10.00 donation (food not included). \nWe are excited and welcome you to the museum for a fun filled night. \nThe doors will open at 6:00 PM so you can enjoy the museum and gourmet food trucks. . \nThe show will begin at 8:00 PM and will be finishing by 9:30 PM. \nWe encourage your support and greatly appreciate it. All proceeds go to the Valley Relics Museum. \nFor more information on the play – www.oldfriendsplay.com/ \nThe Book That Started It All… \nOur dear friend Richard Hulse published his book “Forty Crazy Years of Friendship” as a memoir to his best friend Baines Spivington\, who had perished in a condominium fire.  His friend left many lasting memories of a life filled with joy and adventure.  Within the good times\, Mr. Hulse remembers a brotherhood with Baines; trips to Germany\, sporting events\, and numerous road trips throughout the San Fernando Valley.  In this book\, we see the wonders of the Valley on display through a young man’s eyes in the 1960s and 70s. \nThe friendship came to a halt when Baines died unexpectedly in his condominium when it caught fire.  Mr. Hulse\, along with many of his close friends who ran around with Baines\, mourns their friend and his loss leaves heartache and many questions.  Through it all though\, their friendship will stand the test of time\, and Mr. Hulse paints a vivid picture of love with a brother\, through forty years of friendship.
