The owner was John Aletano, Sr. Aletano’s moved to Laurel Canyon Blvd. location from 4334 Matillija, Sherman Oaks, in 1964. Joe Aletano had retired in 1962 and moved to the Bay Area, but he came back and started up again. His whole family worked there. It remained open at least as late as 1977. [show more]

Description:Menu from Anthony’s Red Vest, a steakhouse located at 1205 South Glendale Ave., Glendale. The Red Vest was incorporated in 1963. A second location (Anthony’s Red Vest, Jr.) opened in 1966, but I don’t know where it was or how long it lasted. There was also an Italian restaurant in 1977 called the Red Vest Pizza Parlor (12639 Glenoaks Blvd., Sylmar), which was probably related. References to the original restaurant in the Valley News start in the 1970s. It had a cocktail bar and a banquet hall called “the Grecian Room.” [show more]
