Description:Menu from Cable's Restaurant, a family restaurant located at Ventura Blvd. and De Soto, Woodland Hills (20929 Ventura Blvd.) The former location of the Woodland Hills Page's! (See href="https://valleyrelicsmuseum.org/archives/items/show/543">VR/GM/55). Cable’s is still open today (as of November 2015) at the same location. Recently (2013), four former servers won an age discrimination lawsuit against the newest owners, after they were all fired and quickly replaced by women in their 20s. This 1980s-era menu lists three other locations in their "family of fine coffee shops" under the name Conrad’s. The Valley’s Conrad’s is in Glendale (820 North Central Ave.), and is also still open today. [show more]

Description:Menu from Damon’s Café and Lounge, a steakhouse and tiki bar located at 317 N. Brand, Glendale. The restaurant was opened in 1937 and is still open as of 2016, and has had a “facelift”. Menu was donated by Kurt Runyon in December 2015.

There also may have been a location in North Hollywood (unconfirmed; based on note from Alan Gorsky). Named for Diamond Jim Brady, a Gilded Age businessman famous for his penchant for precious stones and his enormous appetite for food. Diamond Jim’s was a chain, started in the 1960s, most remembered for its locations on Wilshire Blvd. and Hollywood Blvd. [show more]

Description:Menu from El Torito, a Mexican restaurant which was originally located at 16268 Ventura Blvd., Encino. The Valley locations since 2015 are: 8855 Tampa Ave., Northridge; 6040 Canoga Ave., Woodland Hills; 14433 ½ Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks; and 3133 West Olive Ave., Burbank. El Torito was founded by Lawrence “Larry” Cano in 1955. The location on Ventura Blvd. in Encino was formerly a Tiki restaurant called Bali Hai, where Cano worked as a bartender. After struggling for a few years, El Torito took off and became a popular chain. It was famous for popularizing margaritas. This is a dinner menu from 1992 with a very colorful theme. [show more]

Description:Menu from François, a French/Continental restaurant located at 18373 Ventura Blvd., Tarzana. In 1955, this location was Mandal’s Café. In 1958, it was the Silver Platter Restaurant. In 1959-60, it was the Cork ‘n’ Dyne Restaurant. In 1961, it was the London Broil Restaurant. By 1964, it had become François, which lasted until at least 1974. In 1977, it was a fried fish/chicken restaurant called Fin ‘n’ Wing. In the early 2000s, it was Sushi Tsune and Little Sister Sushi. As of November 14, 2015, it is a Japanese/Korean restaurant called Tou Hen Bok. [show more]
